Phase 2 Progressing at Cooper’s Building

Having successfully completed the first phase of major structural repairs to the iconic six storey Cooper’s Building in Liverpool, Williams Tarr are now well under way on the £3.2 million second phase for Aviva Investors.

Located on Church Street, Liverpool’s main pedestrianised shopping area, the building is occupied on the lower floors by the busy River Island store. The new project will run until June 2017 and involves extensive structural repairs and refurbishment to various elements of structure including the masonry and steel frame on the South and West elevations, and the roof structure.

“Done deal” with Home Bargains

T J Morris has awarded Williams Tarr a £2.4m design and build contract for the new 25,000 square foot flag ship Home Bargains store at Prescot Business Park.

The development is located on a prominent site at the former Prysmian Cables works at Manchester Road, which has recently been fully remediated and had roads and mains infrastructure installed.

Minford says BREXIT!

At the Williams Tarr 98th Anniversary Dinner at Warrington Golf Club on 28th April 2016, guest speaker Professor Patrick Minford CBE, the eminent Economist debated Federal Europe v Brexit:  the economic choices”.

Our staff and over 30 guests were treated to a very lively debate with Patrick expertly fielding numerous searching questions posed by the audience.

New Costa Coffee St Helens

Williams Tarr recently commenced a project to build a Costa Coffee unit at St Helens Retail Park on Peasley Cross Lane for U.B.S. Global Asset Management.  The 15 week contract is due to be completed early in July.

The standalone unit involves extensive sub-structure works, requiring removal of major obstructions from former buildings and vibro-piling to support a reinforced concrete raft slab.

Reconfigurations at Greyhound Retail Park

Williams Tarr Construction recently commenced work at Greyhound Retail Park Chester for Standard Life Investments on a refurbishment and reconfiguration project of unit 2a to form two new units.

Retail schemes and associated restaurants for institutional clients in busy live environments are a Williams Tarr speciality.  We generally have at least two of these projects on site at any one time.

Students enlightened on Soil Stabilisation

Williams Tarr hosted a site visit for HNC construction students from Warrington Collegiate to witness first hand the lime stabilisation operations on a 3 acre HGV concrete aprons project in Warrington.

The £1.1 million scheme by Williams Tarr extends the Hermes Parcelnet Northern Distribution Hub at Omega Business Park, Burtonwood to provide parking for 106 trailers and 30 tractors.

Jon’s Santa Dash for Charity

Williams Tarr Site Manager Jon Marsden, a keen runner, recently boosted his training routine by entering into the Christmas spirit on the 2015 Liverpool Santa Dash raising funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Well done to Jon on receiving your medal!

Jon was one of over 6,000 people who took part in this year’s Santa Dash event which made a circuit of the city starting from Pier Head. The annual fun run is now in its 12th year and last year held the World title for the most Santa participants.



LJMU students visit Cooper’s Building

Williams Tarr recently hosted a series of site visits to Cooper’s Building for building surveying students from Liverpool John Moores University in collaboration with Project Managers Chris Wilman and Richard Kelly of JLL. The visitors received full safety inductions and were taken on a guided tour of this interesting large scale remediation project.

Williams Tarr are well advanced with major structural repairs to the roof and upper floors of the iconic six storey Cooper’s Building on Church Street, Liverpool’s main pedestrianised shopping area.

New Halfords Store under way at Riverside Retail Park

Williams Tarr have commenced a design and build contract to construct a new Halfords retail store at Riverside Retail Park, Warrington for property investors Warrington Riverside Pradera Limited. The new unit infills space between the existing Homebase & Sports Direct stores on the busy shopping park. Strict site management will be required to maintain the safety of the general public and avoid disruption to the trading of adjoining live retail premises.

Fast track retail units delivered on time

Williams Tarr have successfully completed another fast track project at Croft Retail and Leisure Park, Bromborough to reconfigure two existing units into 3 new units. The two phased project facilitated the relocation of Mothercare and the formation of new stores for H&M Bargains and an M&S Simply Food Store. Work included internal strip out, a new façade and entrance towers, internal sub-division, mezzanine floor, new services, etc.

The tight schedule was achieved in time for Christmas trading. The Employer’s Agent commented:
